Le Royal Lyon - MGallery Hotel - Luxury hotel - A short history

A short history

LYON, Place Bellecour. In the heart of the city, at a site formerly called “les Beaux Jardins” (Bella Curtis in Latin), Louis XIV takes center stage. From horseback, he keeps watch over Fourvière hill with its basilica, the Saône and the Rhône. It was a royally appointed architect who built the first edifices around the square; Napoleon then took charge of their restoration. In 1888, Prosper Perrin was asked to erect a hotel here. Since then, the hotel known locally as “Le Royal” has survived the test of time and passing fashions. It now bears the name Le Royal Lyon MGallery.

Upon your arrival, the porter, valet and Clefs d’Or concierge invite you into a charming hotel where French tradition and contemporary creativity are celebrated in every detail. From period furniture to designer creations enhanced by chandeliers and silks, famous brands and renowned studios have provided decorator Pierre-Yves Rochon with the unique pieces that give your Lyon residence its soul. You can choose to take refuge under the benevolent gaze of Madame Mère in the blue lounge or Marie Louise, the mistress of the house, in the red salon of “Côté Bellecour,” our bar overlooking the famous Place Bellecour.

Your stay in Lyon takes place in a grand family residence. This characteristic is the common thread that has guided the decoration of the rooms and suites, each draped in red or blue Toile de Jouy, in keeping with royal hues.

Le Royal Lyon MGallery cultivates excellence à la Française. At breakfast time, Côté Cuisine – the beating heart of the hotel – will bring about your first smile of the day. Discover fruit fresh from the market, sustainable and organic farm produce, charcuteries selected from the best regional producers, and our chef’s cakes and other specialties. L’Institut, opened in 2013, is now recognized as one of the best restaurants in Lyon.

Transparency is the keyword that presides over this establishment, which invites guests to discover the secrets of French cuisine and hospitality.
