Fourvière hill

Rising high above Old Lyon, Fourvière hill is the site of ancient Lugdunum. At its summit, Notre-Dame de Fourvière is an emblematic monument of the city. Of Byzantine inspiration, this 19th-century basilica possesses an exuberant majesty, with its towers, high columns and rich ornamentation. The hill is also home to Lugdunum Museum, formerly known as the Museum of Gallo-Roman Civilization. This includes the ancient theater, the odeum, the sanctuary of Cybele and the actual indoor museum.
